Team News:

  • Fabregas is ruled out for this game ,according to Sarri earlier in press match conference. (see)
  • Mateo Kovacic has fully trained this weekend. He could be a contender to make it on the lineup. (as the 3rd contender remains a doubt after Kante and Jorgihno).
  • Ruben Loftus Cheek could be featured as he is likely to start from the bench.
  • Oliver Giroud , who is working his way to fitness could be featured in last minutes.

Predicted Lineup:
(4-3-3) Kepa; Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Barkley; Hazard, Willian, Morata

Cech; Bellerin, Mustafi, Papastathopoulos, Monreal; Torreira, Xhaka; Ozil, Ramsey, Mkhitaryan; Aubameyang

Following a great opening day victory against Huddersfield City, Maurizio Sarri is set to have his debut game at Stamford Bridge in which he faces a stern test in a highly anticipated London Derby against Arsenal. Despite a comfortable victory on the opening day, the Chelsea side looks quite null in attack and open defensively. Kepa Arrizabagala, the record signing from Athletic Bilbao was untested against Huddersfield but surely the likes of Alexander Lacazette and Emerick Aubameyang will call for the young goalkeeper to work and it is to be seen how well will he fare for the Blues. Meanwhile, Unai Emery who is replacing Arsene Wenger after his 22 years reign at the club is already put into pressure after getting outclassed by the defending champions Manchester City in the opening week. Defensively, Arsenal looked naïve and unsettled but in the latter stages of the match, the Gunners were very lively into the attack possessing serious threat to the City goal, especially after the introduction of Alexander Lacazette in the game. With some pressure to open account to the points table, the Gunners shall go all in for all three points in the late kickoff at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The likes of Aubameyang, Lacazette, Ozil and Mkhitarayan might be just too much for the newly lined back four of Chelsea which seems pretty lackluster particularly in the left side of Marcos Alonso and David Luiz. The Chelsea defense is unsettled but the story is similar at the backline of Arsenal as well. The back four could not cope up with the high pressing of Manchester City and looking at the signs, the Sarriball requires its attackers to press the opposition which might be another problem for Arsenal. And with the return of Eden Hazard into the side, Chelsea might just have its attacking flair back on track to create havoc to the Gunners. So, with two big teams contesting in Europa League playing a derby, both sides currently managed by a new manager and with problems at the back, I expect an interesting and open contest between the two sides ending in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.
