A Story Written In Blue – Ujjwal Khadka Chhetri

When I think about football it drags me back to my school life. In those days we didn’t have any money to buy football, nor did we have sufficient shops where we could buy football in our locality. Hence, those days were more special as we used to play football either made of old shocks or with a fruit called Bhogatay with my friends. From those days, football has become life long friend.

I don’t know when exactly I became a Chelsea fan. But I think it was after I saw Michael Ballack playing in the World Cup for Germany in 2002. He was the main reason for me being a Chelsea. After that my love for Chelsea never died, despite the fact the he had retired from professional football. I started to follow the news of Chelsea and EPL from season 2004/2005. Hence, I like to say 2004/2005 is the season I became a Chelsea fan.

Recalling the past matches, there are huge number of fixtures which come to my mind and thinking of them makes me feel like those incidents occurred just a few month ago. Chelsea Vs Barcelona : Champions League semifinal of season 2008-2009 season match where we had been robbed by Iniesta goal and the referee’s blind eyes. And as an answer to that; a sweet revenge by Fernando Torres in the Champions League semifinal 2011-2012. Season 2011-2012 was one of  the most memorable season where we suffered different highs and lows. The games versus Napoli, Barcelona and the final against Bayern were the ones to remember. Goals from Ivanovic vs Napoli, Ramires Vs Barcelona and Drogba Vs Bayern were unforgettable. However, we cannot undermine the contribution of Petr Cech, the penalty missed by Messi in semifinal, Penalty from Robben, Bastian Schweinsteiger in that great season. That season was awesome not only because we won the Champions league . It’s also because we were facing too many difficulties, 7th position in league. Thanks to Roberto Di Matteo and entire Chelsea squad for that season.

I have observed and found that in most cases ; two brothers from a family support different clubs. But in my case it is absolutely different, my brother Suraj also supports Chelsea . Both of us celebrate the goals scored like we are the one in the field who scored the goal. We both become upset when Chelsea loses a match as if we have lost everything in our life. That feeling of sleeplessness when Chelsea loses the match and moment of pride when Chelsea wins the match. This night be the reason why I believe I am a Chelsea fan.

One night me, my brother and my cousin (Krishna ) were watching the Premier League fixture against Arsenal (2011-2012). The match was really awesome, despite losing 5-3 to Arsenal. We had taken a lead with Lampard’s beautifully headed goal which was sadly cancelled out by Robin Van Persie’s goal. We got back to leading with John Terry’s header, for which Arsenal again replied in the second half through a goal from Andre Santos. Then Arsenal took the lead through by Walcott’s goal in response to which Mata equalised for Chelsea. But the game had been decided with Terry ‘s slip and the goal gifted to Robin Van Persie, which was followed by another goal which marked his hattrick that night . The moment I recall was awesome because we got to watch the two clubs celebrating their goals turn by turn.

There are a lot of games to remember such as 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa, 5-4 win over Manchester United in Capital One Cup, 6-2 win over Arsenal. Talking about the great managers no one can forget Jose Mourihno, Carlo Ancelloti, Rafa Benitez, Roberto Di Matteo, Conte. I like to give full credit to Mourihno for Chelsea’s present status. But I like Conte and Sarri’s approach of playing football. Presently, we are having  a good season , but we need to improve our finishing. I love to see Hazard dancing, dribbling, thrashing opposition’s defense and grabbing goals for us. I wish we get to see Hazard winning Ballon Dor with Chelsea. I really hope he chooses to stay and  will be a Chelsea legend someday as the likes of Terry, Ballack, Lampard.
